+ We started November by having a chat with Dave Nadig (Episode 71), founder of etf.com. We had a great deep dive into everything ETFs and got his take on debunking the myth that ETFs lead to a pricing bubble.

+ In Episode 72, we talk about the relationship between asset allocation and outcomethe ins and outs of reverse mortgages, and finally, life insurance (or lack thereof) in Canada. Ben takes a moment to share his findings on his recent research in asset location. One of his main takeaways is the concept of putting bonds in your RRSP to intentionally trick yourself into a more aggressive portfolio.

+ Just like his namesake, The Loonie Doctor (Episode 73) joins us on the podcast to talk about his work in physician finance and holistic wealth. A physician by profession, The Loonie Doctor prescribes us some financial advice, a different framework in which wealth can be measured and recommends a healthy dose of avoiding social pressure around over spending.

+ We end the month with Cameron and Ben discussing a new financial documentary Playing with FIRE in Episode 74. How much does happiness cost and can you obtain it following the FIRE lifestyle? Next, we answer some listener questions and share our planning advice of the week about insurance for income replacement in retirement.

In every one of my videos I tell you things that hinge on one of the landmark ideas in financial economics, the efficiency of the capital markets. As fundamental as market efficiency is to good financial decision-making, it is poorly understood by most investors.

Global diversification is one of the keys to a well-constructed portfolio. We have known this for a long time, and investors have been largely ignoring it for just as long.

In a 1991 paper titled Investor Diversification and International Equity Markets, Kenneth R. French and James M. Poterba documented the concept of investors’ preference for owning stocks in their home country, commonly known as home-country bias.

We hope that you found our newsletter useful and informative.
