Not all of this gear is necessary to record your own podcast. The Rational Reminder is just one example out of thousands of podcasts, the vast majority of which are audio only. Every podcaster will have a custom setup to suit their podcast’s format.

Electro Voice RE-20 Cardioid Microphone

The most important equipment for any podcast comes down to the microphone. If there is one thing to invest your money in, it’s this piece of equipment. For The Rational Reminder, Cameron and Ben both use the Electro Voice RE-20 Cardioid Microphone. This mic is a favourite in the broadcaster and sound engineering world. It’s excellent for close voice work and has even been used in recording music.

Blue Compass Premium Broadcast Boom Arm

To help hold up your microphone, you’ll need a mic boom (microphone arm). They clamp on to most standard size desks and help you stay comfortable while recording your podcast. For a sleek look but firm hold, we use the Blue Compass Premium Broadcast Boom Arm.
